Bonjour à toustes,

Plusieur.e.s d’entre vous ont surement déjà entendu.E.s parler de nous, notre situation n’a pas
changé énormément ces derniers mois. Nous some Zig Zag, une cuisine open source qui sert 700
repas 3-4 fois par semaine au parc Maximilien à Bruxelles. Nous soutenons les principes
d’autonomie et d’horizontalité dans notre collectif.

PROBLEMES:
Pour le moment le collectif est presque entièrement tenus grâce aux efforts de militant.e.s qui ne
sont pas basé.E.s à Bruxelles et qui n’ont pas l’intention de le faire.
Chaque Jeudi, la Refugee Community Kitchen de Calais fait la route depuis Calais jusqu’à
Bruxelles pour distribuer des repas aux personnes dans le parc (Je sais que les Belges ont un petit faible pour l’absurde, mais là...).
C’est un non sens ridicule qui fait dépenser de l’énergie et de l’argent de personnes venant de
l’étranger pour résoudre une situation qui se produit dans Bruxelles, une ville d’un million
d’habitant.x.s. Absurde, en particulier maintenant car les infrastructures de la cuisine sont en
places, il serait facile de reprendre cette tâche. Nous manquons juste de têtes et de bras.Le compteur tourne désormais car les quelques personnes actuellement investies ont décidéEs d’arreter Zig Zag avant début avril si personne ne les remplacent. La fin du mois de mars est comme un compte à rebours pour nous afin de maintenir Zig Zag en vie.

HISTORIQUE:
Zig Zag est née cet été, répondant à un cri d’urgence lancé sur des réseaux activistes internationaux. La situation était apparemment vraiment grave cet été, des centaines de personnes crevaient la dalle, en plein milieu de Bruxelles, dans le même parc...
Bref, des personnes liées à Calais et Ventimiglia ont réagis, la cuisine de Calais à fait les trajets plusieurs fois par semaine cet été pour distribuer de la nourriture et des objets au parc. D’autres personnes se sont lancées dans la création d’une structure ici en partant de rien (recherche de contacts, achat d’équipement, créer des connections avec d’autres équipes, etc.). Au départ le but était de mettre en place toute la logistique, passer le savoir et le savoir faire, créer un/des équipe.s de remplacement et rentrer chez elleux.
Les choses ne ne se sont passées exactement comme ça pour plusieurs raisons qui ne seront pas
expliquées ici mais environ 5 mois plus tard nous n’avons pas atteint la moitié de ces objectifs.

PROPOSITION DE SOLUTION:
Nous cherchons donc des crews qui pourrait se former et prendre en charge les activités de la
cuisine. Notre agenda est actuellement composé de 2 journées fixes et 2 journées variables (cette
situation risque de changer).
L’idée c’est que toi et plusieurs de tes pot.x.es prennent des responsabilités sur un ou deux jours par semaine. Pour un jour fixe, pour un jour variable, de temps en temps, pour aller faire les courses, pour nous ramener de la récup, s’investir dans l’admin, dans la communication, dans la récolte de fond, dans le maintien de la cuisine...
Le plus nous sommes, le moins de travail cela représente :)

Par exemple, disons que Jo et les habitant.x.s de sa piaule décide de prendre les shifts du lundi.
Cela veut dire qu’ielles auront besoin d’une cuisto + 6 autres personnes minimum par jour. Donc si
Jo et son équipe arrive à recruter 14 personnes au total, elleux peuvent se répartir les tâches
afin de ne cuisiner qu’une semaine sur deux. CQFD. Brillant n’est-ce pas?
Cuisiner pour plusieurs centaines de personnes plusieurs fois par semaine est une tâche énorme,
c’est pour ça que nous avons besoin de construire un équipage de gens motivés pour éviter de se retrouver en burn out dans quelques mois.

PERSPECTIVES:
Si de plus en plus de personnes s’impliquent dans Zig Zag on aura enfin l’opportunité de réfléchir
ensemble à ce que Zig Zag pourrait devenir.
 Assumer plus de distributions? Remplacer le shift de la cuisine de Calais?
 Utiliser les infrastructures pour d’autres activités? (Cuisine pour des soirées de solidarité ou de soutien).
 Maintenir le contact avec Calais et Ventimiglia ainsi qu’avec d’autres cuisines militantes et
réaliser des échanges de savoir pour partager nos recettes et nos savoir-faire.
 Créer de petites infrastructures pour aider la vie quotidienne des personnes dans le parc (rocket
stove portable, récup d’eau de pluie, station de charge pour téléphone...)
 ....

Hi everyone,
Some of you already heard about us, our situation hasn’t changed that much these past month.
We are Zig Zag, an open source kitchen that serves 700meals 3-4 times a week in Maximilien
Park in Brussels, Belgium.
We embrace the principles of autonomy and horizontality within our collective.

PROBLEMS:
At the moment the collective is mainly supported by the efforts of volunteers that are not
based in Brussels and that have no clear intention to settle here.
Every Thursdays, the Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) from Calais is still riding from
Calais to Brussels to distribute meals to people in the park (I know we like absurd in Belgium but
please).
It is a nonsense waste of money and energy for people coming from abroad to solve a situation in a city like Brussels, where 1 million people live. Especially right now when the infrastructures are settled and that it is easy to take over their tasks. We just lack heads and hands.

The time is ticking now since the very few people involved at the moment decided to STOP
ZIG ZAG if nobody takes over the responsibility for organizing the kitchen before april.
End of march is a deadline for us now to keep zig zag alive.

HISTORY:
Zig Zag was born this summer, following an emergency call for help that raised through international activists networks. The situation concerning food was really shitty this summer
apparently. Hundreds of people, starving, in the middle of Brussels, in the same park.
Anyway people involved in Calais and Ventimiglia reacted, Calais kitchen was riding 1-2
times a week to make food distributions in the park, other people came to Brussels and were
building the structure from nothing here (look for contacts, find a spot, buy the equipements,
connect with other crews, etc). At first the goal of this team was to set up logistics, pass
knowledge, form up a crew and leave.
Things didn’t really follow this path for reasons that won’t be explained in details here.
Anyway now we just have to find another crew to run this beautiful kitchen.

PROPOSITION OF SOLUTION:
We are now looking for crews to form and take over kitchen activities.
Our agenda at the moment includes 2 fixed food days, 2 variable food days, 1 shopping day, 1
weekly meeting (this situation can/will change).
The idea is that you and a bunch of your friends could take responsibilities for one or two
days a week. For a fixed day, a variable day, one time every two weeks, randomly, get involved in
shopping day, bringing recup for us, get involve in admin, in communication, in fundraising,
in kitchen maintenance...
The more we are, the less the amount of work :)
For example, let’s say you and your friends are taking over the Monday shift. That means we
need 1 cook + minimum 6 volunteers per day. If you and your friends form a crew of 14
people it falls down to 1 day of cooking and distribution every 2 weeks...
Cooking for several hundred of people multiple times a week is a huge task, that’s why we
need to
build up a flock of motivated people, avoiding to be exhausted after a few months.
PERSPECTIVES:
As more people get involved, we could start thinking together about what zig zag could
become.
 Assuming more distributions? Taking over RCK distribution?
 Using infrastructures for other activities? (for example cooking for solidarity/benefit event)
 Maintain contact and collaboration with Calais, Ventimiglia and other noborder kitchens,
organise exchanges to go there and learn new recipes and ways of working etc...
 Build up small infrastructures to help day to day life in the park (portable rocket stoves, rain
water
collectors, phone charging station...)
 ....

Hoi iedereen,
Sommigen van jullie hebben al over ons gehoord, onze situatie is de afgelopen maand niet
zoveel veranderd.
Wij zijn Zig Zag, een open source keuken die 3-4 keer per week 700 maaltijden serveert in
Maximilien Park in Brussel, België.
We verwelkomen de principes van autonomie en horizontaliteit binnen ons collectief.

PROBLEMEN:
Op dit moment wordt het collectief voornamelijk ondersteund door de inspanningen van
vrijwilligers die niet gevestigd zijn in Brussel en die hebben geen duidelijke intentie om zich hier te vestigen.
Elke donderdag rijdt de Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK) van Calais nog steeds vanuit
Calais naar Brussel om maaltijden uit te delen aan mensen in het park (ik weet dat we van absurditeit houden in België, maar alsjeblieft).
Het is een onzin verspilling van geld en energie voor mensen die uit het buitenland komen om
een situatie op te lossen in een stad als Brussel, waar 1 miljoen mensen wonen. Zeker nu de
infrastructuur geregeld is en het gemakkelijk is om hun taken over te nemen. Het ontbreekt
ons gewoon aan hoofden en handen.
De tijd dringt nu, want de zeer weinige mensen die er nu bij betrokken zijn, hebben besloten
om ZIG ZAG te stoppen als niemand de verantwoordelijkheid voor de organisatie van de
keuken voor april overneemt.
Het einde van maart is voor ons nu een deadline om zig zag in leven te houden.

GESCHIEDENIS :
Zig Zag werd deze zomer geboren, na een noodoproep die via internationale
activistennetwerken werd gedaan. De situatie met betrekking tot het eten was deze zomer
blijkbaar echt shitty. Honderden mensen, uitgehongerd, in het midden van Brussel, in
hetzelfde park.
In ieder geval reageerden mensen uit Calais en Ventimiglia, de keuken van Calais reed 1-2
keer per week om voedsel te verdelen in het park, andere mensen kwamen naar Brussel en
bouwden de structuur hier vanuit het niets op (zoek naar contacten, zoek een plekje, koop de
apparatuur, maak contact met andere bemanningen, etc.). In eerste instantie was het doel van
dit team het opzetten van de logistiek, het doorgeven van kennis, het vormen van een crew en
het vertrekken.
Dit pad is niet echt gevolgd om redenen die hier niet in detail worden toegelicht. Hoe dan ook,
nu moeten we gewoon een andere crew vinden om deze prachtige keuken te runnen.

VOORSTEL VOOR EEN OPLOSSING:
We zijn nu op zoek naar bemanningen om keukenactiviteiten op te zetten en over te nemen.
Onze agenda bevat op dit moment 2 vaste voedingsdagen, 2 variabele voedingsdagen, 1
koopdag, 1 wekelijkse bijeenkomst (deze situatie kan/zal veranderen).
Het idee is dat jij en een stel van je vrienden een of twee dagen lang verantwoordelijkheden op
zich kunnen nemen week. Voor een vaste dag, een variabele dag, een keer in de twee weken, willekeurig, doe je mee aan de dag van de boodschappen, breng je herstel voor ons, betrek je bij de administratie, bij de communicatie, bij de fondsenwerving, bij het onderhoud van de
keuken...Hoe meer we zijn, hoe minder het werk :)
Laten we bijvoorbeeld zeggen dat jij en je vrienden de maandagploeg overnemen. Dat
betekent dat we 1 kok nodig hebben + minimaal 6 vrijwilligers per dag. Als u en uw vrienden
een ploeg van 14 personen vormen, komt het neer op 1 dag koken en verdelen om de 2
weken...
Koken voor enkele honderden mensen meerdere malen per week is een enorme taak, daarom
moeten we een groep gemotiveerde mensen op te bouwen, om te voorkomen dat ze na een paar maanden
uitgeput raken.

PERSPECTIVES:
Naarmate meer mensen betrokken raken, kunnen we samen gaan nadenken over wat zigzag kan worden.
 Meer distributie? Het overnemen van RCK distributie?
 Gebruik van infrastructuren voor andere activiteiten? (bijvoorbeeld koken voor solidariteit/benefiet evenement)
 Onderhoud het contact en de samenwerking met Calais, Ventimiglia en andere edele
keukens, organiseer uitwisselingen om erheen te gaan en nieuwe recepten en manieren van
werken te leren enz...
 Bouw van kleine infrastructuren om het dagelijkse leven in het park te vergemakkelijken
(draagbare rocket stoves, regenwater
verzamelaars, telefoonoplaadstation...)
 ....
